Period of Mourning:

1. The customary period of mourning the death of a pope is known as the Novemdiales (nine days).

2. Prayers for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis are offered throughout the Novemdiales.

Prayers:

Traditionally, the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be to the Father are recited by all Catholics for the repose of the soul of the Pope.

The Rosary can be prayed for the deceased Pontiff.

Universal Prayer: At all the Masses celebrated during the time of mourning one of the following suggested petitions should be inserted. OLHC will utilize these petitions and parishioners are encouraged to use them in their personal prayer. 

1. That Pope Francis, called to the heavenly kingdom by the Lord, may rejoice forever at the banquet table of heaven, we pray to the Lord.

2. That Pope Francis, who served the Church as Supreme Pontiff for nearly 12 years, may worship God forever in the liturgy of heaven, we pray to the Lord.

3. That the tireless efforts of Pope Frances, now called to the Lord, may bear fruit in unity, peace, and love among all people, we pray to the Lord

4. For Pope Francis, who preached that God is love and that we are saved in hope, that he may know God’s love for ever in heaven, we pray to the Lord.
