The Social Justice Commission guided by our Parish Mission Statement functions to engage the entire parish in a Christian response to fundamental human needs. Based on the Gospel of Jesus its members work for justice and peace and provide leadership in these areas. The Commission facilitates social justice education and faith formation opportunities. It coordinates various hands-on social justice initiatives.
Though the Commission is not directly responsible for the following activites, they are responses to the activites of this Commission.
Our parish will answer Christ's call to "Feed My People."
OLHC has a food pantry that serves everyone inside our parish boundaries. The pantry is open Monday evening and Wednesday morning by appointment only.
A program whereby the sponsor brings a gift for the child for their birthday, Christmas and Easter.
Outreach Garden Project - our newest initiative.
The garden will complement the Parish Food Pantry, provide fresh produce for the many folks in our community who regularly come to our food pantry and those in need to supplement their grocery budgets. In addition, we will be conducting cooking and preserving classes to enable the recipients to use the products most efficiently.
We will be growing as organically as possible and planting those crops with the highest yields, nutrition and appeal. Our needs are great this first year. Volunteers will provide personal tools and labor. What we will need are seeds, plants, compost and soil amendments and lots of prayers for a good growing season and plenty of HELPERS!
Currently Red Doering, Ann Hauser and Lynette Sprague-Falk have volunteered to help but more support is necessary.
Thanks goes to LMRE for granting funds to construct a rainwater collection system to irrigate the field.

Evangelization is the work of the entire parish. Guided by a parish vision of a Christ-centered parish and by a spirit on inclusive partnership, the Commission strives to create a welcoming attitude in the parish and to serve our neighbors throughout our 500 square miles as graciously as we can in witness to Christ.
Working with existing Committees and commissions they have been involved in establishing the role of greeter at weekend liturgies as well as coordinating and follow-up of new registrations. The Evangelization Commission developed a Ministry of Prayer that enables the homebound to feel connected to the parish. The Sunshine Committee reaches out to the parish at various moments in peoples lives. As the parish continues its efforts to be Good News, the Evangelization Commission cooperates with all other Parish Commissions and Committees to become ever more welcoming witnesses to the gospel.
